Be the first to hear about the next f/8 Workshop!

Join us in the Canadian Rockies for a fall-colours inspired photography workshop in Banff and Yoho National Parks.

Join us in the Canadian Rockies and we will take you on a photographic adventure to capture the stunning landscapes in both Banff and Yoho National Parks. On this 7-day tour, we will visit the Canadian Rockies’ most iconic landscapes, including the world-renown Lake Louise. In September, the autumn colours promise to add even more colour to the breathtaking scenery.

This is the first f/8 workshops experience in the Canadian Rockies and we couldn’t be more excited. Our instructor, Jeff Bartlett, has lived in the region for a decade and he cannot wait to show you his beautiful backyard.

This trip will balance the incredible travel experience with dedicated photography instruction. Not only will we guide you to incredible landscapes, but we’ll show you everything you need to know about your camera and its settings so that you can begin capturing strong images. In the classroom, we’ll take it a step further, too, and show you the tips and tricks you need to edit your images like a pro.

We will focus on the beautiful landscapes, photographing sunrise and sunset as often as possible; however, we’ll also keep our eyes on the forecast. If there’s a chance of clear night skies and northern lights, we’ll take advantage!

A workshop for everyone

This workshop is ideal for any skill level. Because of our intimate knowledge of these locations and our small group sizes, we’re able to tailor our instruction for each participant. Whether you’re a complete beginner or seasoned pro, this workshop will add to your photography experience.

For participants keen to learn specific skills, we are available to help, just let us know what you most want to learn, and we will accommodate your requests! Throughout the workshop, all participants can expect:

  • Full-day adventures, each day, that cover various aspects of landscape photography

  • Hands-on, personal instruction and every location, no matter your skill level

  • Individualized photography instruction, including everything from basic camera settings and compositions to specific skills for sunrise & sunset and night sky photography.

  • Classroom sessions showcasing our complete post-processing workflow in Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and more adventured techniques, like exposure blending, in Adobe Photoshop CC. Try out the Adobe Photography bundle if you don’t already have it.

  • A unique travel experience and the opportunity to build new friendships and learn from fellow photographers.

  • Above all else, we have fun! And we eat plenty of ice cream!

“Amazing workshop! Jeff and Conor make a fantastic team. They were well organized, super knowlegable, and fun. In addition to having a great time, I can see an improvement in my photography.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you need a minimum number of people to run the workshop?

Our f/8 workshop trips require a minimum number of participants. We appreciate your commitment to join us and we will confirm the trip a minimum of 2 months in advance. Feel free to secure your place on the workshop, but please be patient and wait until we confirm with you before you book your flights. We are unable to assist with airline refunds. Please note, we will provide full and immediate refund from our ticketing site should the workshop not take place.

  • When do we book our flights?

One the workshop is confirmed, we will let you know it’s time to book your flight. Participants should plan to arrive at the Calgary International Airport (YYC) on Saturday 19th September, 2020.

  • How is payment handled?

We use a third-party service called Billetto. This not only allows us secure online transactions, but we can accept numerous forms of payment. We also accept Paypal or bank transfers, but you’ll have to contact us for these arrangements. We also offer a payment plan for those who prefer to pay in instalments. Please email us for details!

  • What type of accommodation should I expect?

Accommodation is comfortable, but not luxurious. All f/8 workshops promise single occupancy, so you will have your own room throughout the workshop unless you make alternative arrangements. Throughout the workshop, we will stay at two different hotels. The move is necessary simply to reduce our time spent in the vehicles.

  • What if the weather is bad?

It’s autumn in the Canadian Rockies. We are prepared for anything from warm sunny days to the season’s first snowfall. We will adapt our plans to make the most of the conditions.

  • What skill levels do you teach?

We teach everyone from beginners to advanced photographers. Beginners will learn their camera settings and improve their craft, while experienced photographers will leave with a stronger portfolio.

  • What photography equipment do I need?

We always recommend either a dSLR or mirrorless camera with at least a wide angle and telephoto lens; however, it isn’t truly necessary. Whether you’re using the latest professional gear or a basic point and shoot, we will help you get the best out of your camera.

  • What fitness level do I need for this trip?

It’s no secret that the Canadian Rockies are dramatic, but few people realize just how accessible these locations truly are. If you’re comfortable carrying your camera equipment and hiking for 30-45 minutes, you’ll be fine.

  • What if I need more information?

Feel free to contact us with your questions. Once you are registered, you’ll receive an information pack and general timeline for what to expect moving forward

  • What about cancellations?

Please check our complete Terms & Conditions for more details.

“Jeff and Conor were both excellent photographers and excellent teachers. I learned a lot about composition, use of filters, night sky photography, and how to do panoramas. The Lightroom and Instagram workshops were very helpful, and we had the option of sticking close to the instructor or exploring on our own at most locations.”
Lisa Morales, 2019
